Six Occupy Marchers Arrested in Raleigh

Six Walkupy marchers were arrested this afternoon in Raleigh for “failure to disperse.”

Walkupy is “mobile occupation” of highways by long-distance marchers. The marchers arrested today were part of DCMarch2GA. They departed Washington, DC on December 1 and plan to arrive in Atlanta on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day after walking 700 miles.

Occupy Raleigh hosted a rally at Mordecai Park, then set off for the Capitol Building. Police made the arrests as the march proceeded toward the Occupy Raleigh’s encampment at Edenton and Hillsborough streets.

Bail was set at $500. Walkupy says it’s made bail through Occupy Raleigh donations and “individual kindness.”
